After a long day working with computer or after eye-intensive work, it would have been nicer if we can get an eye massage the way we get body massage. (Obviously with not the same force and intensity but gentle touch like feather.)

OSIM launched iCare, the stylish ergonomically designed eye belt/mask featuring effective massage on and around eye with various level of combination of heat, air pressure and vibration. Various pre-defined setting and manual arrangement gives you stimulate blood circulation and provide relief from a number of common eye conditions including eye strain, tiredness, insomnia and headache.

Have you used this eye belt? Please feel free to post your experience and comment about it.

Who will feed your Fish when you are out?

My wife frequently asks me to bring pet animal at home (i.e.: Fish) but I have some (maintenance) problem, especially who will feed my fish when we are out?

Now she got an answer to my dilemma - A Robotic Fish Feeder is the answer. (Designer: Ran Xiangfei) FIFER robot (Fish Feeder) does feeding job to Fish. Fish finally get the attention they deserve. One less item you need to worry about on your day to day tasks. (Related article: End of one more boring task - inflate your car tire)

Fish Feeder

Fish feeder not only feeds but feeds the fish in correct amount. First it calculates the density of Fish in water and dispenses the right amount of food at the pre-set times. If you are growing fish in fish pond then Robot moves to another area (based on pre-set path setting) of the pond calculate the fish density and dispenses. There is also a plant on top which grows to represent the health of your fish.

Designer Indian Saree Inspired by Google Search

June 20th, 2008 | 10 Comments | Posted in Fun, Funny, Silly, Google, TGIF, Tech for Life by admin

Famous Indian fashion designer, Satya Paul, is inspired by Google and came up with an idea of Google Saree. (Actually, nothing to do with technology or what Google does, but still this is some interesting piece of art) (What is Saree?, definition of sari/saree) In fact Google is written as “Oogle” on saree (replacing the “G” in the Google logo with “O”) maybe to avoid any brand name issues with the search company—Google. Here is the picture of fashion model wearing Saree but frankly specking she is not wearing it properly as her foot is visible when she is walking. It’s good effort though but not executed very well.

Anyway, are you feeling luck? ;)

Reduce the global warming with few clicks.

On this World Environment day, if you don’t want to go out and plant a tree (yard work) but at least you can promote tree planting using unique search engine www.ecocho.us which promises to plan a tree for every 1000 searches made. This will help to offset tons of greenhouse gases. Ecocho.us is using yahoo search technology for search engine.

Simarly, Ecoogler, the ecological search engine, has created quite a bit of buzz with the same theme. They promise to help reforesting trees and safeguard water resources in the Amazon region, which constitute today one fourth of the fresh water reserves of our planet. Ecoogler is using Yahoo technology. However, it’s worth noting that some people believe that Ecoogler is a fake, as you can read on Digg. Ecoogler says that you get same results (as Yahoo) and help the non-profit association Aquaverde founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2002. Ecoogler promises to grow a tree pre 10,000 searches.

One of the reader on treehugger.com is not so happy about this standards.

1 tree for 10,000 searches doesn’t seem that generous to me. A comparable search engine that uses google, offers 1 penny to a non-profit of your choosing. Even if I did a 100 searches a day, which seems somewhat high, it would take 100 days to plant a single tree. I know there are other programs which will plant many more trees for an equivalent effort.

Obviously I like the idea but I think Ecoogler missed the mark. Also switching to the yahoo engine is not a plus for me, if they had kept using the google engine I could switch my habit much more easily. As it stands now I think there are much better alternatives.

Google finance trick: Get multiple stock quote is one click.

June 4th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Google, Tech for Life by admin

Every morning when I come to work, I check current price of my favorite stocks/ETFs. The easiest way for me to type ticker symbol in Google search box, hit enter and get the stock quote. But I have a long list of stocks that I would like to know today’s price. So, I need to enter one-by-one ticker symbol and get a quote one at a time. But here is the kicker: to view multiple stock quotes and/or fund information, enter two or more ticker symbols (rather than company names) into the Google search box. If all ticker symbols are correct then Google will give you “Stock quotes” link that includes all ticket symbols that you entered earlier. And Clicking on that link will give you all stocks quote in subsequent page including other useful information about each stock. Its a small trick but saves little bit time and few clicks.

End of one more boring task - inflate your car tire

Tiers commonly leak slowly and unnoticeably. It’s very boring to visit gas station, almost every month, to inflate your car tire. Its also time consuming if you want to find a gas station which offers free compressed air to their customer. It is important to have your car tier inflated up to tire manufacturer’s recommendations. It improves gas mileage and tire longevity. Poor tire pressure costs the US an extra $3.7 billion in fuel annually. (source here: http://www.selfinflatingtire.com/index.html)

Latest automobile technology has an answer for the problem. Technology called “SIT” Self-inflating Tires. SIT is a newly developed, very simple, inexpensive and reliable system for Self-inflating Tires. SIT consisting of just two components: a peristaltic pump and a stop-valve that stops over-inflation. However, it is not as simple as it sounds. Brilliant design of CODA DEVELOPMENT, Czech Republic works behind this break-through innovation.

How it works:
SIT is an integral tire component that uses atmospheric air to automatically inflate the tire. As a main source of energy it uses only wheel rotation, so there is no compressor or similar additional device needed. The inflation capability doesn’t depend on the speed of the vehicle. It can be inflated with any speed. However, it can not inflate when car is not in motion. Principally, a round tube embedded in the tire’s sidewall is squeezed together at the bottom as the tire rolls, forcing air into the tire. Once it’s inflated to the stop value stops pressure - which can be mechanical — shuts off. That’s it.

Currently SIT is not in commercially production but they demonstrated SIT technology at SAE World Congress in April 2008.

Update (Aug 5, 2008): With reference to Obama and Mccain’s latest tug of war about tire pressure issue, (and read this too!) Obama or Maccain should include automatic self inflating tire technology in their energy plan and should promise to offer tax credit for installing SIT (self inflating tire) in your car tire. What do you think about it?

Where is the Secret of Life?

Conference Bike turns corporate meetings into a funride

I have seen many companies trying may weird type of things for team building events, ranging from group cooking class to wine/beer testing events. Recently I was in one of the boring party at local brewery. I also notice that less people are attending such company wide meeting at some boring place. Employee with children will attend if picnic is set up at corn field or apple picking farm.

To add a twist in the long conference party ideas, Conference Bike is nice idea for arranging conference. Especially when team members like to sweat a bit. The Dutch Bicycle Company has created a Conference Bike, which promises to be the sure-fire ice-breaker in corporate and/or social environment. (and corporate bosses and executive look like children in a park) CoBi-7 retails for $12,750 in the States while the 5-seater model sells for $8,750. The 400lb bike measures 2.5m L x 1.8m W x 1.4m H and can run upto 1o mph speed.

In case you’re wondering how this bike would be useful in scenarios other than a corporate set up, let me tell you, the two models of the bike, CoBi-5 (good for 5 persons) and CoBi-7 (good for 7 persons) are already being used to employees on the Amazon.com campus in California, Google.com campus in Mountain View CA, as a tour bike in Berlin, and as a corporate team-building tool in London and other major cities.
